Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition Vision
The SB Bike Coalition’s vision is that Santa Barbara will be a leader in creating a bicycle
friendly community and transportation system. Extensive on-road and separated
bikeways, a coordinated transit system, parking and amenities allow us to enjoy a
culture where the majority of daily trips include a bicycle.
Job Summary
The volunteer/membership coordinator is responsible for all activities related to the
recruitment and retention of both volunteers and members. Volunteers and members
are the key resource and strength of the Biker Coalition in carrying out its mission. They
provide the hands, minds and energy to carry out programs, events and activities.
Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment and Training
• Recruit required number of volunteers for SBBC activities and events
• Recruit volunteers to commit to one-day, short-term, and long-term volunteer
activities, events and projects
• Present the Bicycle Coalition to local community and county organizations,
student groups, and others to obtain volunteers, and collaborate/partners for
events
• Facilitate and support training of all volunteers to make sure that all volunteer
efforts meet SBBC quality standards
Planning and Implementation
• Assist staff and Board in identifying projects requiring volunteers through needs
assessment and ongoing communication
• Assist staff and Board in implementation of events and support volunteers
during events and Coalition activities
• Research relevant community organizations that could provide volunteers (e.g.
SBHS) and develop partnerships for recruitment
• Work with Board and staff to plan annual volunteer appreciation events
Volunteer Management and Tracking
• Establish and regularly update volunteer schedule and list of events
• Communicate regularly with volunteers through check-in phone calls, e-mails,
text messages and personal appreciations for their efforts
• Implement volunteer appreciation events and “tokens” of thanks
• Document and log volunteer hours in volunteer tracking system and report
hours to the SBBC Executive Director and Board
Write and distribute (to all volunteers) a handbook that provides volunteers with
a hands-on document that describes the organizations misiioon and volunteer
roles and responsibilities
Evaluation of Volunteer Activities
• Develop and implement volunteer survey tools to assess needs and satisfaction
• Collect and manage feedback from all parties involved in volunteer activities,
including volunteers and staff members through written reports and verbal
comments
• Share feedback with staff and Board to acknowledge strengths, successes and to
make improvements for future volunteer-run activities
Membership Coordinator Responsibilities
Membership Recruitment
• Lead membership programs designed to retain and grow the SB Bicycle
Coalition's current membership base (~280 members)
• Develop and implement new member recruitment strategies and activities
• Manage and develop high value benefits/discounts for Santa Barbara Bicycle
Coalition members
• Set membership strategy, membership numbers and budget goals to produce
desired results.
• Develop targeted membership campaigns including community outreach, email
and direct communications.
• Work with Development, Communications and Program Board Committees
and staff to improve upon existing and create new programs and outreach for
membership.
• Collaborate with Development and Communications Board Committees on
membership materials.
• Create organizational talking points and messaging across membership
materials.
Membership Communications, Management and Tracking
• Manage membership renewal process
• Respond to member inquiries
• Write compelling communications to gain, retain and engage our current
membership and grow our base
• Lead a variety of on-going email, social media and print communications to
retain and grow our diverse membership base
• Develop a membership questionnaire and database of member skills,
experiences and contacts to support volunteer activities
• Manage lead generation and membership retention programs.
Evaluation of Membership Growth
• Analyze historic and survey data to create new programs and refine existing
membership programs to achieve growth targets

implement new strategies.

TITLE: Lead Instructor
JOB TYPE: Contract based, 5 hours weekly
LOCATION: Santa Barbara (CA)
PAY RATE: $15- $17.50 Hour DOE
WHAT WE ARE: The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBC) is a countywide advocacy and resource organization that promotes bicycling for safe transportation and recreation.
Bici Centro, a project of the SBBC, is a community DIY bicycle repair shop and education center, with the goal of facilitating skill share and increased reliability and safety for Santa Barbara bicycle riders.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Bici Centro Bicycle Repair Shop and Education Center seeks a qualified educator for class instruction during the 2012-2013 school year. The after-school classes empower junior high students to become drivers of their bicycles for safe transportation and recreation. This position will report to the Education Coordinator of the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBC).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Certification by the League of American Bicyclists as a League Cycling Instructor
- Demonstrated capacity in teaching groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Self-motivated person who can work effectively in both a chaotic environment
- Strong communication skills including: interpersonal, electronic, and group setting
- Ability to effectively teach cirriculum and lead in class settings
- Organizational skills
- Computer literacy and use of email communication.
- Ability to set measurable goals and see them through to their completion
- Commitment to the use of the bicycle as a legitimate form of transportation

1/23/2012: Open Shop Coordinators
Bici Centro, a project of the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition, is a community DIY bicycle repair shop and education center, with the goal of facilitating skill share and increased reliability and safety for Santa Barbara bicycle riders.
We are hiring Community Open Shop Coordinators to facilitate one open shop shift each week.
Shifts are
Tuesdays 3:30 – 7:30 pm
Wednesday 3:30 – 7:30 pm
Thursdays 3:30 – 7:30 pm
Saturdays 1:30 – 5:30 pm
Responsibilities include:
• operation of cash register and POS system
• greeting and signing in patrons of the shop
• teaching patrons bicycle repair skills
• coordinating and appropriately tasking shop volunteers
• organizing shop pre and post open hours
Qualifications:
• Background in bicycle mechanics
• Strong inter-personal skills
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Ability to multi-task and maintain awareness of all happenings in a busy shop
• Background in community based projects, community service, or non-profit work
• Knowledge of Santa Barbara Bicycle Community and safe bicycle riding practices
• Firmly believes in bicycles as a viable form of transportation
