As part of CycleMAYnia's monthlong celebration of bicycling on the south coast, we are organizing a 2-day bike tour across much of the county. The theme is that overnight touring by bicycle is wildly fun, surprisingly easy (logistically, anyway), and both socially and environmentally progressive.

Meet at the Amtrak station in Santa Barbara a little before 10am on Saturday. The train will take a few bikes, but we'll load most onto the S.B. Bike Coalition truck and trailer. The truck will be used only to move bikes northbound to Guadalupe, not to carry your things. We'll take the Surfliner northbound at 10:22am and exit at Guadalupe at 12:16pm.  Then we'll fasten our camping equipment to our bicycles; each rider will need to carry everything they need for camping (except for the main meals and the heavy pots and pans--the truck will carry the bulk kitchen items).  From there, we'll ride south, and we'll eat dinner together and camp at Nate Siemen's 100 acre ranch in Santa Rita wine country. After breakfast together Sunday morning, we'll ride to Refugio State Beach to meet other riders that are looking to do a Sunday-only short ride and eat lunch. Then ride back to Santa Barbara.

Join us for this fifth annual installment of what's becoming a Santa Barbara tradition! Send questions and comments to Mike Vergeer (board member of the S.B. Bicycle Coalition) at or 805-403-3792. Probable route (but subject to slight changes):  This year's route is MUCH more challenging than those of former years; the Sunday portion will be long, hilly, and it will include some freeway riding. Alternate option: If you don't want to do the whole big ride on Sunday, you could ride back to Lompoc to catch the Amtrak at Surf Station to train back to S.B.

Register on this page. Most meals (Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast & lunch) will be provided! The tiny fee for Coalition members supplements many generous donations (Traffic Solutions, Fat Uncle Farms, Ortlieb, S.B. Fish Market) toward campsite, food, and other event costs. Non-members must first join the coalition and then register for this event. The theme is DIY in every way--please contact Mike if you can help with food procurement and/or preparation. Each rider is responsible for acquiring their own train ticket; discounts available (with 3 day notice)

T-SHIRTS! To get something printed with the tour de tent logo, please bring something with about 1 square foot of printable space on it (t shirt, sweatshirt, bag, flag, whatever) to Bici Centro before April 25. It must be very dark in color (not just kind of dark; we're going to use a light ink). There's a box above the frig to collect things. Attach your name very securely with a safety pin.
