As part of CycleMAYnia's monthlong celebration of bicycling on the south coast, we are organizing a 2-day bike tour that will span parts of both Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, including a night of camping at a farm in Ojai. The theme is that overnight touring by bicycle is wildly fun, surprisingly easy, and both socially and environmentally progressive.

Meet at Bici Centro at 506 E. Haley St. in Santa Barbara in the nine o'clock hour on Saturday. We'll fasten our camping equipment to our bicycles and depart en masse at 10am.  Each rider will need to carry everything they need for camping (except for the main meals [Sat. dinner and Sun. breakfast] and the heavy pots and pans--a car will carry the bulk kitchen items).  From downtown Santa Barbara, we'll ride south to Ventura, at which point we turn inland along the paved Ventura River Trail toward Ojai.  We'll camp together at B.D.'s Earthtrine farm in Ojai; be sure to thank him if you see him at the farmers markets in Santa Barbara in coming weeks!  After breakfast together on Sunday morning, we'll clean up our site and head back to Santa Barbara via your choice of three routes: along Hwy 150 (beautiful, but very steep and quite narrow roads with fast cars), back the same way we rode in, or a leisurely return to Ventura along the Ventura River Trail to pick up the VISTA bus if you don't want to ride all the way.

Join us for this sixth annual installment of a Santa Barbara tradition! Send questions and comments to Mike Vergeer (board member of the S.B. Bicycle Coalition) at mvergeer@yahoo.com or 805-403-3792. Probable route (but subject to slight changes): https://goo.gl/maps/B5C4q

You must register on this page. Most meals (Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast & lunch) will be provided! The tiny fee for Coalition members supplements many generous donations (Traffic Solutions, Earthtrine Farm, Ortlieb, more donors sought and TBA) toward campsite, food, and other event costs. Non-members must first join the coalition and then register for this event. The theme is DIY in every way--please contact Mike if you can help with food procurement and/or preparation.

T-SHIRTS! To get something printed with the tour de tent logo, please bring something with about 1 square foot of printable space on it (t shirt, sweatshirt, bag, flag, whatever) to Bici Centro before April 18 (Earth Day). It must be very light in color; we're going to use a dark ink.  There's a box above the frig to collect things.  Attach your name very securely with a safety pin.
