CycleMAYnia & events

CycleMAYnia is a month long celebration reaching thousands of Santa Barbara cyclists and community members with wide-ranging bike events for all. CycleMAYnia is a collaboration of many community members and organizations.

    Check-in at Sheffield Reservoir from 7:00 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.

    Starting point at 2300 Gibraltar Road at
    8:00 a.m.

    First rider starts at 8:00 a.m.  Riders will start the climb anytime between 8:00a.m. - 8:20a.m.  Any gear left at the start will be taken up to the finish-line at the top of the climb. Refreshments also will be available at the top.

    Registration closing date: Thursday, May 17, 2012 @ 12:00 p.m. PDT, $8.00

    Late Registration: Day-of registration add $2.00 to base entry fee of $8.00.  Payment race morning can be cash or check.  Credit card payment can be taken with a 2.75% credit processing fee added.

    Overall Awards to Top Four Males and Top Four Females: Gift certificates from our amazing Santa Barbara bike shops and other CycleMAYnia sponsors - FasTrack, Open Air Bicycles, Bicycle Bob’s, VeloPro and Hazards (Available for pick-up in the respective shop on Sunday 05/20/12). 

    Great raffle prizes for registrants include a one-night stay at Hotel Santa Barbara in downtown SB ($200 value) and a complimentary entry for one child to the Santa Barbara Kid's Series (Aquathlon| Triathlon| Duathlon) from 3LETE.com ($100 value-transferable). 

    Parking:

    We strongly suggest that participants either ride to the start from home, plan to continue riding the Ridge west, or carpool to the event and leave one car at the top at the finish area. Descending on Gibraltar Road is very dangerous and not recommended.  Gibraltar Road will be open to local traffic so spectators can see the event. Signs will be posted and volunteers stationed to alert motorists of the event.

    All bicyclists are invited to participate in a self-paced ride through beautiful Carpinteria on roads and trails. The scenic morning ride will be followed by a delicious brunch under the world’s largest Torrey Pine tree.

    Check-in - 9 AM 

    Rides Start - 9:30 AM

    Brunch - 11 AM

    A bicycle ride in Carpinteria, geared towards both experienced riders and families. The ride is intended to be fun and not competitive. The ride begins and ends under the world’s largest Torrey Pine tree located on Carpinteria Ave., adjacent to Rincon Cycles and The Lucky Llama coffee shop.

    Please PRE-REGISTER all riders: Release form must be completed and signed on the day of the event. CLICK HERE to print the form.

    Choose between 2 scenic routes, a 5-mile bluffs trail ride suitable for families or a 15-mile moderate road ride. Maps will be provided to participants and markers will be on the routes. Participants may start the ride anytime between 9 and 9:30 am and should pace themselves to finish between 11 am and noon to enjoy a delicious brunch and prize give-away.

    Routes:  Ride Option 1*: an easy 5-mile ride on bluffs trails and quiet area roads. Points of interest will be marked (seal rookery, world’s largest Torrey Pine, salt marsh, Tomal park play area, etc.) so that riders may stop and enjoy some of Carpinteria’s highlights.

    Ride Option 2: a 15-mile road route through the Carpinteria foothills and Gobernador canyon area. Moderate elevation gain (~500 ft).

    *recommended for those riding with children  (children must wear a helmet and be accompanied by an adult).

    The royal court invites all noble knights and fair princesses from near and far for a medieval ride!
    Meet at Hollister School on your trusty steed at 11:00AM.

    Option 1: After a quick safety check-up, young riders will take the bike path, stop at Milk & Honey Farm to pet the goat and finish at Goleta Beach.

    Option 2: Older riders will head to More Mesa for dirt riding, jumps, single tracks... After a good workout, meet the younger group at Goleta Beach.

    Parents: Children under the age of 10 need to be accompanied by an adult.

    Bike Monkeys from Santa Barbara Middle School will be our expert bike mechanics for the rides.

    Finish with a party at Goleta Beach! Prizes for best Medieval costumes & bikes. Games & Activities
