If you haven't yet witnessed, or better yet ridden, the monthly first-thursday Bike Moves ride, you are in for a surprise. The event isn't organized or hosted by any established group, it simply has a facebook page, an email list and a website. Large community fun rides like this are popular in many US cities, and they emphasize the community element to cycling that often gets lost in our individual 'bike to work' trips. Bike Moves embodies more of a 'bike to fun' element, and as a result of the respectful yet goofy ride, often more then 200 riders take part.

This week the ride opens up right on the eve of Fiesta, and part celebrating, part poking fun of the faux-spanish feel of 'Old Spanish Days' the ride theme this First Thursday is
'Running of the Bullcycles"
There are generally small fundraisers held after the event, and Thursday evening's is likely set to benefit local bike guru Jim C. who is currently hospitalized after an accident during a youth BMX trip that he organized.
The bike moves mission is to get people on their bikes and have a real good time while respecting our community. Bike moves provides Santa Barbara with an all encompassing fun social event for people that enjoy riding bikes of any kind.
Bring a commuter bike, beater, racer, beach cruiser, roller blades, or anything that rolls. Every month we celebrate with an optional theme to get everyone in a merry making mood. If it's your first time, don't worry about it and just come out and ride!
This is a planned coincidence, non-event. With 3 Rules: Have fun, respect our community, and obey all traffic laws (don’t forget a light!)
