Our Pedal Power program
is in its fourth year of teaching safe cycling and bike maintenance to SB Junior High, Goleta Valley Junior High, La Colina Junior High, Carpinteria Middle School, Isla Vista Teen Center, SB Charter School and Fesler Junior High in Santa Maria. During the first year:
Jose who didn't know how to ride a bike and discovered the feel of the wind in his face when he started to pedal on the school blacktop, said with a big smile: "this is like a video game." (Pedal Power at GVJH)
Sylvia was struggling with her other classes. She finished at the top of ours and is empowered to ride. (Pedal Power for girls at La Cumbre JH)
Ana got exercise, lost weight, and discovered the joy of bike mechanics. (Pedal Power at SBJH)
Rosie's new bike was stolen the day after Christmas. She's back on two wheels thanks to her hard work and our Earn-a-Bike program. (Pedal Power at Casa de la Raza)
Testimonials from Parents: "Thank you so much for the incredible Pedal Power program. My son just finished his last day of the program at La Colina: he was so sad it was over. Before Pedal Power he was apprehensive about bike riding and not entirely comfortable. He summed it up perfectly today, as he said, "before I liked my bike, but now I love biking!" He is a much safer and confident rider: thanks to the amazing teachers! They did an amazing job teaching, encouraging and inspiring the kids." Kathy Mintzer (La Colina Junior High)
"THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! We are so grateful for the program. Serena has gained the confidence to ride, and more importantly, she enjoys riding. We can't wait for our younger daughter to participate next year!" (Goleta Valley Junior High)
